Practice #2: Hats

Great job today.  The boys worked hard and showed great teamwork.

The boys hit the cover off the ball today.  Coach Andrew and Jim did a good job hitting the bats!!!  Thanks to all the dads we were able to running practice smoothly and get in tons of reps and work on several drills.

The boys worked on the following concepts:
·         Base Running
o   Half-way – “as far as you can go and still get back on a caught ball”; as hard has you can to left field,
o   Front-side/Back-side – Advance on balls behind the running, wait for the throw on balls in front
o   Freeze in the air – Tagging on fly balls to right field and watching/reacting on balls to left field
·         Run-downs
o   Throw forward and run back
o   Show the ball
o   Get in throwing lanes
·         Bunting
o   Bat at an angle
o   Work down to the ball with body
o   Upper body square to the ball

After the stations were completed the boys were broken up to an inter-squad scrimmage. The boys worked on keeping the ball down and not hesitating in game situations. Coach Andrew was able to showcase his ballet moves, complete with a graceful crash landing.

At the end of the first scrimmage Coach Eric pleaded with the mom's to let the practice continue. They all caved and another round of scrimmaging started, only this time Coach Eric brought in the closer, Coach Jim.

The coaches will continue to stress things like glove side relays, getting rid of the ball quickly from the outfield, hustle and good communication everywhere.  The coaching staff will push the boys hard and expect them to execute what & how we practice … knowing they all have the ability to get it done.

Reminder … no team hats at practice.  The white hats will get dirty quick.  Let’s leave them for games.  Practice Jerseys please.

With that … please bring your bathing suit and towel with you at practice.  A little sliding practice is in order.  Hey, Matt … there might be a few water balloons as well.
