Game 5 of the World Series would be versus the Carolina Pilots. The BIG Reds won 12-11 in extra innings! This was our first tie-breaker - and in the 7th inning, each team got to start with a kid on second base. The Pilots scored two runs in the top of the 7th, and had runners on 2nd and 3rd with no outs, but we SHUT THEM DOWN! Then the BIG Reds scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to bring the win. It was a great way to end the game and the weekend's tournament!
The BIG Reds' Offense:
We had 22 hits in 7 innings!
Andrew 3-4 plus a sacrifice fly, RBI, run scored
Jack 3-4, run scored
Christian 2-4, 2RBI
Will 1-4 run scored
Drew 1-4 RBI run scored
Evan 3-4 RBI 2 runs scored
Sam 3-4 Triple (game winning), 2 RBI, run scored
Tanner 2-3, 2Doubles, RBI, 2 runs scored
Sticks 2-3 plus moved the runner, RBI, run scored
Jonah 2-3 double, 2RBI, run scored
Edward 0-3 RBI run scored
The BIG Reds' Defense:
The Pilots had 16 hits in 7 innings.
Put outs - Three kids all had THREE put outs each - Tanner, Edward and Will! Drew, Evan, Andrew and Sticks had put outs as well.
Pop flies - Sticks, Sam and Will all caught TWO pop flies each. Drew and Edward also caught pop flies.
Offensive Stars of the game: In this game we had 22 hits (compared to just 5 hits earlier in the day) so there were a lot of kids who stepped up offensively. But it was Big Papa Bear Sam who went 3-4 today along with the game winning, walk-off triple to bring in two runs and win the game for us!
Defense Stars of the game: Again, lots of good plays for the boys... but it was the last inning, the last out of the game that scores the Star - it goes to Will for his backwards diving catch at short stop which could have scored 2 runs easily if he had dropped it... so it made a HUGE difference for us and was the game changer for sure! Great job, Will!
Combined Stars of the game for Games 4/5 went to Evan. He was robbed of hits as kids made diving catches, going 0-3 in the first game (game 4), but he was always smiling. He went 3-4 in game 5 with singles, but the time he struck out, he walked back laughing. It's his positive attitude that wins him the sticker today... keeping his head up, getting right back in there and playing great with the next play - not worrying about what just happened, that makes a good player great. Way to go, Evan!
