Top Gun Rocky Mount: Game 1 vs Fishers

Top Gun Rocky Mt. was actually played in Wilson for the 8Us.  Game 1 had us meeting up with the RV Fishers again. The BIG Reds were ready for the rematch. The BIG Reds were victorious, 8-3. The BIG Reds had 15 hits to the Fishers 10 hits.

The BIG Reds' Offense:
Will  1-3, Home Run!, 3 RBI, run scored
Matt 1-3, Triple, run socred
Sam 2-3 RBI, run scored
Evan 2-2 Double, run scored
Tanner 0-2, sacrifice fly, RBI
Sticks 1-2 RBI
Jack 0-2
Christian 1-2, run scored
Jonah 2-2 run scored
Edward 2-2 run scored
Andrew 2-2 RBI, run scored
Drew 1-2, sacrifice fly, RBI

The BIG Reds' Defense:
Put-outs - All these boys had two put-outs in the game: Edward, Evan, Tanner, Jonah, and Drew.  Will and Andrew both had put-outs, and Jack made a great play at the plate to get a boy out as well.

Pop Flies - Jonah, Matt, Andrew, Sam and Sticks

Stars of the game were handed out in conjunction with Game 2.

Offensive Stars were awarded to Jonah, Andrew, and Will. Jonah and Andrew both hit 4-4 total for the two games today; they had 5 RBI combined, as well as enjoyed crossing the plate themselves.  Will hit a base clearing in-the-park home run in the 5th inning, collecting 3RBI.  It was a great way to beat the Fishers... a team that had given us trouble the past two times we saw them.

Defensive Stars were harder to single out. The BIG Reds made a lot of great defensive plays during Saturday's two games. Coach told the boys he could give out a LOT of stickers.  But he focused on three particular kids who stood out:
1)  Edward - a grounder hit to him at third that he bare-handed and threw the kid out at first.  It was a great throw and it was the only way he could have made the play.

2)  Drew - "grabbed some stitches on his chin AND the ball" on a frozen rope to deep left center field.  After getting the out with the pop fly, he threw the guy out running to home for a second out.  Way to go Drew!

3)  Matt - he got hit in the arm and the knee, but he kept his composure, and got the last out of the game to assure the win.
